Open Mic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Open Mic ( English open mic ; literally translated open microphone ) is the name given to the gathering of several people who, for example, meet in bars, cafés or at events to present their works to an audience.

The lay authors or musicians usually perform texts or pieces of music they have written. Unwritten rules are: a time limit (around ten minutes), no racist, discriminatory, tasteless, sexist or insulting texts. After the lecture, the audience can comment on the works. However, there is no “compulsory assessment” as is the case with the regulated variant, the poetry slam . Open Mics are held regularly in many cities.

The German term for “Open Mic” is the open stage .
