About this picture

Groß Rheide ( Danish : Store Rejde ) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The community has no other districts.

history

The place was probably founded in 1250 as a roadstead . At that time it was probably a pier of the Rheider Au , a tributary of the Treene , which is said to have made the marshland navigable and which is said to have been used by the Vikings as a connection between Hollingstedt an der Treene and Haithabu an der Schlei during floods . The goods were presumably transported from Hollingstedt to Groß Rheide by ship and from then on overland. The Rheider Au was also integrated into the Danewerk . Ultimately, however, the origin of the place name is not proven.

politics

Community representation

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the AKW voter community has had seven seats since the 2008 local elections and the CDU and SPD each have two.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Divided into a wavy cut of silver and green. Above with the stalks crossed three oak leaves over two acorns, below three awned ears of cereal in mixed up colors. "

The community of Groß Rheide is located in the middle of a large sand area on the southwestern edge of the Schleswig Geest . With the settlement of this landscape area, the formerly large oak forests were cleared and the land made arable as arable land for the cultivation of grain . The lowland area of the Rheider Au served as pasture for cattle. The design of the coat of arms refers to the settlement history of the place: oak leaves and acorns symbolize the original oak forests. The three ears of corn are the symbol for land management. The wavy line highlights the importance of the Rheider Au in the context of settlement, while the green background refers to the pastureland in the lowlands of the Au.

economy

The municipality is predominantly agricultural.
