Meyn ( Danish : Meden ) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The place has received several awards as part of the “ Our village has a future ” competition. Meynfeld-West, Meynfeld-Ost and Gabelshof are in the municipality.
Geography and traffic
Meyn is located about thirteen kilometers west of Flensburg on the federal road 199 to Niebüll and the state road 14 from Wallsbüll to Kragstedt . In Kragstedt there is a connection to the federal highway 200 .
history
The place received special regional attention in the 1970s and 1980s, when the US Army special ammunition depot Meyn was built next to an already existing ammunition depot for the Flensburg-Weiche site in Meyn-Ost . Warheads for the Lance weapon system were temporarily stored there. The deposited weapons no longer exist. The depot with its purpose was dissolved. There are now two biogas plants on one of the depot properties that heat some of the houses on Dorfstrasse. The bunkers are rented out on the other depot site.
