Bundesstrasse 199 (abbreviation: B 199 ) is the name of two federal highways in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . In Schleswig-Holstein, the road creates a connection between Kappeln ( Schleswig-Flensburg district ) and Niebüll in North Frisia . This connection leads via the independent city of Flensburg . In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the road leads roughly from the federal highway 20 near Klempenow (junction Anklam) to the city of the same name , where it joins the federal highway 110 .

The federal highway 199 in Schleswig-Holstein runs through the north of the state and connects Kappeln via Flensburg and Schafflund with Klixbüll near Niebüll, crosses the hilly landscape of fishing and offers in parts views of the Baltic Sea . To the southwest of Flensburg, where it crosses the A 7 and the B 200 , the B 199 leads over the Geest , and finally ends in the marshland on the North Sea coast . This section of the route is particularly busy, as it offers a connection from Leck via the B 5 from the A 7 to the car loading of the Sylt shuttle of the Deutsche Bahn in Niebüll over the Hindenburgdamm to the island of Sylt .
Other names of the federal road (road in Schleswig-Holstein)
Between Kappeln and Flensburg it is called Nordstrasse . From there further to the west it bears the following official names: At the Flensburg harbor it is called Hafendamm ( Petuh : Haabendamm ). From the top of the harbor her name is Süderhofenden . At the Deutsches Haus it is called Friedrich-Ebert-Straße . A little further, in Neumarkt am Flensburg City Hall , is it part of the road Protect Kuhle in order according to how they continue towards Exe runs, to Exe to be called. Soon afterwards it bears the name Am Friedenshügel , named after the Friedenshügel , which it passes further west.

The Nordstraße section from Kappeln to Flensburg was opened in 1954. The construction took 2 ½ years and cost 22 million DM. The road replaced, so to speak, the more than 40 km long course of the Flensburg circular railway , which was apparently closed shortly after the inauguration of the road.

With regard to a new building in the Wasserloos district of Flensburg , it was announced in 2015 that the city of Flensburg had meanwhile been considering the four-lane expansion of Nordstrasse towards Kappeln.

Handewitt bypass
Due to the high traffic load west of the federal motorway 7 near Handewitt, which is favored by a 90 ° curve, the state of Schleswig-Holstein has decided that the municipality of Handewitt should get a bypass. The route will be 7.3 km long and some will also have four lanes, but the majority will be two lanes. The construction costs would amount to 13.7 million euros.

The federal highway 199 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania begins at the intersection near Klempenow and after one kilometer crosses the A 20 junction at Anklam. After the Breest bypass comes the Albinshof district of Krien . After crossing the Peene-Südkanal and passing through Postlow , the route reaches Anklam , where it joins the B 110.
The road is relatively narrow for a main road. An approximately 15-kilometer-long stretch of road leads straight through an agricultural area with few closed settlements without any bends . These are mostly off the road.
History (street in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
The Anklam junction (number 29) on Bundesstraße 199 was built in the course of the construction of the new federal motorway 20. This was therefore relocated west of Breest to a more northerly route. With the gradation of federal highway 96 north of Neubrandenburg , the western end of federal highway 199 was relocated from the intersection with the former federal highway 96 to the Anklam motorway junction.
The old route led from the B 96 first in an east-south-east direction through Klempenow, and then swiveled to an east-north-east direction roughly where the newly built motorway intersects the old route of the B 199. The structurally still existing road then leads to the village of Breest, where it meets the current route of the federal road. A few hundred meters east of Breest the road bends to the left. This is where the 15-kilometer curvilinear section begins.
