  • The national highway 327 (abbreviation: B 327 ) is a German national road in Rhineland-Palatinate . It begins in Koblenz and leads from the B 42 over the Hunsrück to Hermeskeil . The B 327 is part of the Hunsrückhöhenstrasse .

    course

    former B 327 near Rödelhausen

The B 327 begins with the crossing of the Rhine over the south bridge in Koblenz and leads from there to the Hunsrück over Emmelshausen , Kastellaun to the Frankfurt-Hahn airport . There the federal highway 327 has been interrupted due to the extension of a runway. It starts again at Wahlenau and runs from there with the B 50 to Morbach-Hinzerath, where it is also marked as Europastraße 42. From Morbach , the main road continues via Thalfang to Hermeskeil , where it ends.

    history

The National Highway 327 was built between 1938 and 1939 as a strategic road link to the German border ( Westwall built). When planning the route from Koblenz via Waldesch , Hermeskeil and Saarburg to Perl , which is close to the border , one orientated itself largely on an old Roman road. Due to its particular strategic importance, construction was advanced quickly, so that 140 km were completed in just 100 days. However, numerous existing routes were included. A special feature is that the route was designed without the construction of bridges. The construction was carried out by workers from the Todt Organization . Because of its course over the high elevations of the Hunsrück , the route was also known as the Reichshöhenstraße . Today it is called Hunsrückhöhenstrasse .

The construction of the Reichhöhenstrasse is also thematized in the fourth film of the epic film Heimat by Edgar Reitz .

In the course of the construction of the A 1 , the Hermeskeil-Saarburg section was rededicated as the B 407 ; meanwhile, the route Hermeskeil - Nonnweiler - Tholey - Riegelsberg (near Saarbrücken ) was assigned to the B 327 .

    Conversions

In the Hahn Airport area , the straight course of the B 327 was broken and required permanent relocation. So the route marked as B 327 today from Kappel first follows the B 421 in the direction of Kirchberg and then the B 50 westwards until it changes back to the original B 327 at Hirschfeld (train station) . The dismantled straight section between Kappel and Hirschfeld (train station) was downgraded to Landesstraße 193; this was later completely dismantled between the Raversbeuren exit and the confluence of the B 50 for the western extension of the airport. Since then, the original route can no longer be used continuously, even on smaller roads.

The bypass Kastellaun , which had been planned since 1993, is 4.8 kilometers long and cost around 23 million euros , received a funding commitment from the federal government in December 2010. Construction began in 2011 and was completed in July 2014. This bypasses Kastellaun in the west between the junction of the L 205 near Roth and the junction of the L 204 near Bell .

In the neighboring town of Gödenroth , construction of the bypass began on March 4, 2016. The length of this construction project is 3.1 kilometers. The Gödenroth bypass was opened to traffic on November 21, 2019.

The motorway is used to close the gap between the Waldesch and Emmelshausen junction of the A 61 . The original B 327 was stepped down to state road 214 in this section.
