  • The national highway 221 (abbreviation: B 221 ) is a federal highway in Germany .

    course

The federal road leads from the B 58 in Straelen ( Kleve district ) southwards via Heinsberg and Geilenkirchen to Alsdorf ( Aachen city region ), where it ends at the B 57 .

    history

At the beginning of the 1950s, the main road ran only between Straelen and Geilenkirchen. The extension to Alsdorf only took place in the following years.

    Arsbeck bypass

In August 2008, construction began bypass of Wegberg- Arsbeck , which is sign-posted as B 221n. The construction costs were estimated at around 9.9 million euros. This section of the route was released on August 12, 2010. The determination of the route goes back to the year 1978. The town center of Arsbeck should be relieved by 75 percent by the new building.

    Planning

Numerous other bypasses are being planned.

The 1.6 km long Wegberg-Wildenrath bypass , which was planned in the 1960s to 1970s, has been approved since June 1, 2011. It currently ends at a feeder road that leads to an industrial park. A small section of the B 221n with a feeder to a roundabout that leads to Wildenrath to the old B 221 and to Dalheim was completed in autumn 2010. On December 7, 2015, construction began on the subsequent Wassenberg bypass . Completion and traffic release took place in December 2019. This is followed by the Heinsberg-Unterbruch bypass , for which the planning approval process is still ongoing.

The Brüggen-Genholt section, which is also planned, is further north.
