The federal highway 408 (abbreviation: B 408 ) is a relatively short German federal highway in Lower Saxony . It is about 18 km long and lies in its entire course in the urban area of the city of Haren .
Coming from the German-Dutch border near Rütenbrock , it runs parallel to the south along the Haren-Rütenbrock Canal , crosses the A 31 , continues as a bypass road south past the city center of Haren, crosses the Ems and reaches the B 70 in the Emmeln district .

Today's B 408 was previously part of the B 402 . However, this was re-routed from Meppen -Borken as the Meppen northern bypass in the direction of Twist-Schöninghsdorf .
In the 1960s , the Kaisersesch - Ulmen - Hasborn - Wittlich - Trier - Landstuhl route was designated the B 408 until it was expanded to the A 48 , A 1 and A 62 .
