The federal road 65 (abbreviation: B 65 ) is a federal road that leads from Bohmte near Osnabrück via the cities of Preußisch Oldendorf , Lübbecke , Minden , Bückeburg , Stadthagen , Hanover , Peine to Vechelde near Braunschweig , where it meets the B 1 .

The federal highway 65 thus crosses the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony .

history

origin

The highway from Hanover to Minden ran between Bückeburg and Stadthagen across the territory of the principality of Schaumburg-Lippe . This important connection was expanded into a road from 1782 , the maintenance of which was financed by a road allowance until 1903.

Road construction west of Osnabrück began in 1818 with the section Osnabrück - Lotte . The road between Rheine and Ibbenbüren was completed in 1850. Road construction around Rheine was much more difficult because the state border between Prussia and the Kingdom of Hanover had to be crossed here. The last section of the route, the Salzbergen - Bentheim - Oldenzaal section, was completed in the years 1856–1857.

Previous routes and names

The long-distance road 65 (FVS 65) established in 1932, renamed Reichsstraße 65 (R 65) from 1934, began at the Dutch border and ended in Hanover, where it led to Reichsstraße 1 . Reichsstraße 65 was extended to Vechelde around 1937 when Reichsstraße 1 was relocated to the shorter route via Hildesheim , which was previously Reichsstraße 78 .

Substitutions and downgrades

The section from the Dutch border to Rheine has been downgraded to Landesstraße 39 (L 39) after the completion of the A 30 . In Rheine, however, an approx. 3 km long section of the B 65 between the B 70 and the B 481 was preserved, which was rededicated as the B 481 at the beginning of 2015 .

The section from Rheine to Lotte was downgraded to Landesstraße 501 (L 501) in the mid-1990s , as it also runs parallel to the A 30 . From Lotte to Osnabrück it has been downgraded to Kreisstraße 6 (K 6). The common section with the B 51 from the A 33 near Belm to the current beginning between Ostercappeln and Bohmte is now only part of the B 51.

course

The B 65 begins today in the Herringhausen district of Bohmter at the intersection of federal highways 51 , 65 and 218 near Ostercappeln. It leads east over the municipality of Bad Essen , after about 20 km curves around the Protestant church in Pr. Oldendorf and then continues to Porta Westfalica near Minden north of the Wiehen Mountains .

In Lübbecke it crosses the B 239 and in Minden as a motorway-like road the B 61 in a clover leaf and the B 482 as a junction of the B 65. In Minden it also crosses the Weser , a few kilometers south of the Minden waterway intersection .

From now on, the B 65 runs again in Lower Saxony north of the Weser Mountains and from Bückeburg , where the B 83 begins, between Bückeberg and Schaumburger Wald . In parts it is expanded to four lanes. In Bad Nenndorf the B 442 and the A 2 are crossed.

In Hanover , the B 217 begins at the Tönniesbergkreisel . From the Landwehrkreisel to the Seelhorster Kreuz , the B 65 runs along the Südschnellweg together with the B 3 and B 6 . At the eastern edge of Hanover, it crosses the A 7 and then continues east to its end point. The B 443 is crossed in Sehnde and the B 494 begins at Berkum . Since the release of the new section of the B 1 as a bypass of Vechelde on August 13, 2009, the B 65 now meets the B 1 outside of Vechelde, more precisely between Vechelde and Sierße , in the form of a roundabout.

Sections under construction

The B 65 between Stadthagen and Bad Nenndorf is being expanded in the 2 + 1 system . The first section of 3 km between Vornhagen and Kobbensen has been under traffic since 2018; construction has not yet started for the second section between Beckedorf and the A 2.

Current plans

Urgent need

The following projects are classified as urgent needs in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 :

  • The bypasses of Preußisch Oldendorf (including Bad Holzhausen ) and Lübbecke . If it is implemented, the main road between the state border near Bad Essen and the southern districts of Hille will presumably be completely relocated and rebuilt on a parallel route. The expansion is to take place in two lanes.
  • A bypass of the southwestern districts of Minden in the 2 + 1 system
  • The two-lane bypass of the Obernkirchen district of Vehlen
  • The two-lane bypass of Nienstädt
  • A two-lane new building between Sehnde and Peine
  • The two-lane bypass of Peine district Dungelbeck

Further need

The following projects are classified as additional requirements in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 :

  • A two or four-lane new building between Bad Nenndorf and Gehrden district Everloh
  • The six-lane expansion in the city of Hanover
  • The two-lane bypass of Sehnde district of Ilten
