The federal highway 288 (abbreviation: B 288 ) is a federal highway in North Rhine-Westphalia . It leads from Krefeld , as an extension of the B 57 , to Duisburg-Huckingen. In Duisburg-Huckingen it changes to the A 524 . On the Krefeld side the street is also called "Berliner Straße", on the Duisburg city area "Krefelder Straße". The border between the two cities lies in the middle of the Krefeld-Uerdinger bridge over the Rhine.

    Trivia

    • The B 288 is the federal highway in North Rhine-Westphalia on which most of the truck movements are counted
    • In Mündelheim, the only way for pedestrians is via the B 288 over a pedestrian bridge.
    • The B 288 is one of the three most dangerous roads in Duisburg. Up to 90 accidents occur here every year, some of them fatal or seriously injured. In most accidents, however, it remains with sheet metal damage.
    • The B 288 runs exactly through the town of Mündelheim and divides it into two parts.
    • Shortly before Mündelheim, the so-called historic Uerdinger line branches off the main road to meet the A 524 in an arc north of the Duisburg districts of Mündelheim, Huckingen and Buchholz in the direction of Ratingen-Lintorf . The Uerdinger line is the northern language line of the transition area from the Lower Franconian to the Central German language area. North of the line, in Duisburg, they spoke "ek", south of this line "ech" (standard German: "I").
    • The B 288 is to be expanded into a four-lane road in the coming years, according to plans by the State Office for Road Construction in North Rhine-Westphalia .
