The federal highway 462 (abbreviation: B 462 ) is a German federal highway . It leads from the Upper Rhine Plain near Rastatt for about 114 km through the northern Black Forest to Rottweil. The Rastatt – Freudenstadt section, which runs through the Murg Valley to Baiersbronn , has also been known as the Black Forest Valley Road since the 1960s , and one of the Black Forest tourist roads alongside the B 500 ( Black Forest High Road). Both streets meet in Freudenstadt. The Rastatt-Gaggenau section has been expanded to four lanes up to the level of Bad Rotenfels Castle (State Academy) since 2001 and has been designed to run smoothly to Gaggenau-Mitte. The Gernsbach through-road has been relieved since 1997 by the 1527 m long Gernsbach tunnel .

course

The federal highway 462 runs through the following larger towns:
Rastatt - Kuppenheim - Gaggenau - Gernsbach - Weisenbach - Forbach - Baiersbronn - Freudenstadt - Alpirsbach - Schenkenzell - Schiltach - Schramberg - Rottweil . From there the federal road 14 (B 14) leads towards Tuttlingen .

electrification

In the pilot project eWayBW , the federal highway 462 between Kuppenheim and Gernsbach Obertsrot is to serve as a test route for overhead line trucks . Two four-kilometer sections in this area will be electrified for this purpose. As of 2020, commissioning is planned for spring 2021 and the dismantling of the systems after three years of test operation in summer 2024, unless there is another operating concept. After two E-Highway pilot projects on motorways, this is the first test nationwide on a federal highway. The project is therefore scientifically monitored from many perspectives and is of interest across Europe, as this route has many problems that need to be overcome when electrifying federal highways.
