The dam of the Murgtalsperre Kirschbaumwasen
|
The hamlet of Kirschbaumwasen is part of the municipality of Forbach in the Rastatt district , Baden-Württemberg , and has around 60 inhabitants. It is located in the valley floodplain and on an alluvial cone of the Murg River in the northern Black Forest , about six kilometers south of Forbach.
The name Kirschbaumwasen is not derived from cherry trees, but comes from "Kirchen bann wasen". The area belonged to the ecclesiastical Forbacher Heiligenfonds , whose Heiligenwald was located there. When a large area of the forest was cut down in the second half of the 18th century in order to deliver the trees to Holland, the Fauler'sche Murgkompagnie , commissioned by the Baden-Baden ruler to sell wood, founded a forest colony here.
South of the hamlet, the Murg is dammed up by a 54 m long rifle weir to the approximately 800 m long Kirschbaumwasen collecting basin, from which a tunnel leads part of the Murg water to the Forbach power station for energy generation . The facility was built between 1914 and 1918. To the south, the border from the Rastatt district to the Freudenstadt district joins, the former Baden - Württemberg state border.
The federal highway 462 (west of the Murg) and the Murgtalbahn (east of the Murg) run through the village, which has had a stop here since electrification and the switch to light rail operation in 2003. It is the last stop on the route that is still in the tariff area of the Karlsruhe Transport Association .
