The Murgtalsperre Kirschbaumwasen , also known as the Kirschbaumwasen reservoir , is a dam in the Black Forest ( Baden-Württemberg ). The reservoir is located in the Forbach district of Kirschbaumwasen . The next largest city in the Murg Valley is Gernsbach ; The Murg is dammed for the purpose of generating energy.
The dam is part of the Murgwerk within the Rudolf-Fettweis-Werk and belongs to EnBW Kraftwerke AG, the former Badenwerk Karlsruhe .
The barrier structure of the reservoir is a 23 m high gravity dam .
The water is fed through a 5.6 kilometer long pressure tunnel (Murgstollen) and two 437 and 450 meter long penstocks into the Rudolf-Fettweis power plant and then into the Forbach compensation basin , which also serves as a lower basin for the Schwarzenbach dam. Five Francis turbines generate a maximum output of 22 megawatts with the water from the Murgtalsperre with an average usable gradient of 145 meters.
The Murg power plant in Forbach, which was built from 1914 to 1918, was greatly expanded between 1922 and 1926 during the construction of the Schwarzenbach dam.
