Location of Windelsbleiche in Senne
Stadt Bielefeld

Windelsbleiche is the central part of the Senne district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. Windelsbleiche, however, was never a separate community, which makes it difficult to define exactly. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. The informal district of Windelsbleiche roughly corresponds to the statistical district of Windelsbleiche.

Along with Windflöte and Buschkamp, Windelsbleiche is one of the three main settlement areas in the Senne district. Running waters in the district are the Reiherbach and Toppmannsbach .

history

In the area of the district, which has always belonged to the municipality of Senne I , there used to be only individual farms, but no actual village center. The colon Heinrich Christoph Scherpel put 1832 in the vicinity of his court bleaching , whose moats were fed by Reiherbach. In 1851 Scherpel sold his bleaching business to August Wilhelm Kisker , a linen merchant from Bielefeld , who in turn sold the bleaching business to Hermann Windel in 1872. Under the management of Hermann Windel and his son Gustav Windel , the Bleichen developed into a well-known company in the textile finishing industry .

When Senne I was reached by the Bielefeld – Paderborn railway in 1901, a train station was built near the Windelschen Bleichen due to the high volume of goods produced by the Windel company. In order to avoid confusion with other train stations, the train station was not named after the municipality of Senne I, but was given the name Windelsbleiche . The name of the station carried over to its surroundings and the development there.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, company apartments have been built by the Windel company in a relaxed manner . After the First World War , the settlement of the Windelsbleiche metal works led to a greater density of the district, which continued after the Second World War . A coalescence with the other Senner districts was prevented by the airfield in the north and the Windelschen sewage fields in the south of Windelsbleiche.

Windelsbleiche has been part of the Senne district of the city of Bielefeld since 1973.

Religions

The Protestant Christians in Windelsbleiche belong to the Emmaus parish with the Christ Church on Buschkampstrasse, while the Catholics belong to the Bartholomäus parish with the Bartholomäus Church on Windelsbleicher Strasse.

traffic

With the Windelsbleiche stop on the Bielefeld – Paderborn regional railway line, the district has a direct railway connection to Bielefeld main station . Bus routes 36 (Brackwede – Windelsbleiche – Senne tram terminus), 83 (Bielefeld – Windelsbleiche – Holte Castle) and 94 (Brackwede – Windelsbleiche – Gütersloh) also run through the district .

The A 33 leads south past Windelsbleiche. The Bielefeld-Senne junction is on Buschkampstraße .
