Location of Milse in Heepen
Stadt Bielefeld

Milse is a district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the northeastern district of Heepen . Until 1972 Milse was an independent municipality in the Office Heepen the circle Bielefeld .

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. The old community of Milse roughly corresponds to the statistical district of Milse, which today roughly defines the boundaries of the informal district of Milse.

Milse is located in the northeast of Bielefeld and borders the Bielefeld districts of Altenhagen , Heepen , Baumheide and Brake as well as the Herford district of Elverdissen . Coming from the south, the Lutter flows through the district and merges with the Johannisbach to form the Aa at Gut Milse .

history

The Milse estate was first mentioned in 1194 and belonged to the Heepen Bailiwick in the Ravensberg county . During the Napoleonic period , the Bailiwick of Heepen became the canton of Heepen in the Bielefeld district of the Kingdom of Westphalia . Milse initially remained in the canton of Heepen, but was then reclassified to the canton of Schildesche in 1812. After the Ravensberger Land fell back to Prussia in 1813 , Milse belonged to the Bielefeld district from 1816 and initially to the Schildesche mayor's office , from which the Schildesche office was finally formed in 1843 .

In 1893 Milse was reclassified from the Schildesche office to the Heepen office . As part of the municipal reorganization of the Bielefeld area , Milse was incorporated into Bielefeld on January 1, 1973 and has been part of the Heepen district since then .

religion

Milse used to belong to the Protestant parish of Heepen. Today Milse has its own Protestant parish, whose church is the Milse Evangelical Church . The Mils Catholics belong to the Brak parish of Maria Königin. There is also a Mennonite community in Milse .

Moated castle Milse

The old manor house probably dates from around 800. The manor was first mentioned in 1194 as "Milesou". Johannisbach and Lutter combine on the property and become Aa . In Herford , the Aa flows into the Werre , which finally flows into the Weser . The property has been owned by the Lott family since 1886. Heinrich Lott founded a paint factory in the farm buildings there, but it is no longer in operation.

The Milser Mill

The Milser Mühle has been owned by the Borgstedt family for more than 125 years. In 1875 the mill, which at the time belonged to the Milse estate, was leased by the family and later bought. Originally, fodder meal for animal husbandry was produced here. Grain for human consumption has been ground here since 1918. Even today, 10 to 15 percent of the mill is powered by water power.

traffic

Milse is east of the federal highway 61 between Bielefeld and Herford. The federal motorway 2 can be reached from Milse at the junction Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Bielefeld-Altenhagen , two kilometers away . From there, the Ostwestfalenstrasse is to be extended to the B 61 in the future, passing Milse north as the L 712n.

Milse is directly connected to Bielefeld city center by line 2 of the Bielefeld Stadtbahn . Buses 33, 51 and 352 to Brake, Altenhagen and Herford also run from the Milse tram stop . In August 2008, the conversion of the terminus from a turning loop into a stump end point with elevated platform and parking spaces for 250 cars was completed. At the end of 2015, a new roundabout was built in the Milser Strasse / Elverdisser Strasse area. Furthermore, the tram line 2 was extended to the new terminus in neighboring Altenhagen. The new section of the route was officially inaugurated on December 6, 2015.
