Quelle is a district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the Brackwede district of Bielefeld . Until 1969, Quelle was an independent municipality in the Bielefeld district .

Structure and location

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of ​​an old community. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. The old community of Quelle corresponds roughly to the statistical districts 37 Kupferheide and 38 Quelle .

Quelle is located directly south of the main ridge of the Teutoburg Forest and is traversed by the Lutter and the Lichtebach . The highest point of Quelle is 313  m above sea level. NHN on the Hünenberg.

In the west, Quelle borders on Steinhagen , in the north on the district of Hoberge-Uerentrup in the Bielefeld district of Dornberg and in the northeast on the district of Gadderbaum . history

Initial settlement

In 1036 the Meyerhof Borckhusen (Meyer zu Borgsen), located on the ground of today's district, is mentioned for the first time. In 1221 Quelle was first mentioned under the name Cawelle in a deed of donation.

Administrative division

Since the 19th century source was a municipality in the Office Brackwede the circle Bielefeld . The area west of the Lutter up to the Johannistal and the Olderdissen farm originally also belonged to the municipality . This area was incorporated into the city of Bielefeld on January 31, 1907 and is now part of the Brackwede district .

Through the law on the reorganization of the Wiedenbrück district and parts of the Bielefeld district , Quelle was incorporated into the city of Brackwede on January 1, 1970 . Fire brigade and parish

The volunteer fire brigade Quelle was founded on August 21, 1921. The Evangelical Lutheran Johannes-Kirchengemeinde Quelle-Brock was established in 1958 when the former parish of Brackwede was split up. The Johanneskirche parish belongs to the parish of Gütersloh.

The Queller coat of arms shows the three emperors tower, the construction of which began in the three emperors year 1888 and which was completed in 1894, on three red rafters on silver. The three rafters indicate the County of Ravensberg , to which the spring used to belong.

Hünenburg

The Hünenburg is a ruined castle on the Hünenberg (302 m above sea level). This is located on the southern slope of the Teutoburg Forest. The three emperors tower built in 1894 had to give way to a telecommunications tower in 1952. 20 years later, the television tower on the Hünenburg was dismantled, from the newly created 40 m high viewing platform you can take a look at the south of Bielefeld. At the same time, a new, 164 meter high Hünenburg telecommunications tower was built on the ruins of the castle.

Regular events

Every year there is a Christmas market at the Johannes Church in Quelle. The Hünenburg Festival was held every year on Ascension Day. Due to the difficult logistics and decreasing visitor numbers, the Queller community as the organizer decided to stop the festival and replace it with the Queller Summer in the town center, which was celebrated for the first time in 2019.

TuS Quelle coat of arms

In May 1919 the gymnastics and sports club Quelle (TuS Quelle) was founded in the Büscher restaurant. The club consists of five departments: football , gymnastics , table tennis , volleyball and basketball . There are three gyms and two sports fields available for the more than 1900 members. The club colors are blue and white.

ASC-Hünenburg e. V.

In 1953 the ASC-Hünenburg e. V. (Automobilsportclub e.V. in ADAC) founded. The name is based on the Hünenburg castle ruins . In 2003, the association was dissolved and lives in parts of the MSC-Hünenburg eV (Motorcycle Sport Club e.V.) founded in 1973, which is affiliated with the ASC-Hünenburg e. V. had been affiliated since it was founded.

Queller community

The Queller Community is an association that aims to make the coexistence of all residents easier, friendlier and more attractive in social, cultural, economic and political areas of life. There are more than 200 members. The association organizes two district festivals every year: on Ascension Day, the Hünenburg Festival below the Bielefeld television tower and the Queller Christmas market around the steeple of the Queller Johanneskirche. From 2015 the Hünenburg Festival will no longer be celebrated on Ascension Day. Here the board and the advisory board have decided to equip Sunday as a musical day of action around the solstice in June.

HSG Quelle / Ummeln

In June 1991 there was a merger of the handball clubs CVJM Quelle and CVJM Ummeln. Since then, HSG Quelle / Ummeln (handball and sports community) has been competing in handball together. The club consists of three departments: handball , badminton and women's gymnastics. The association currently has around 290 members.

Former racing course

From 1905 until the 1960s, there was a racing course in Quelle where horse races and driving tournaments were held. During the Second World War, the racing field was temporarily used by the military as a makeshift airfield. A traffic training area was then operated on the site . Today there is a new housing estate on this site, the street names of which (Am Rennplatz, Galoppweg, etc.) are reminiscent of the former racing area.
