Stadt Bielefeld

Sudbrack is a district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the Schildesche district . The district is located northwest of the city center. The small Sudbrackbach flows through the district .

history

Sudbrack was first mentioned in the middle of the 13th century, the name means "southern wasteland". The area of Sudbrack was until 1930 part of the district Bielefeld belonging municipality Schildesche peasantry , which also old Schildesche was called. On October 1, 1930, the Sudbrack area was incorporated into the independent city of Bielefeld.

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. Sudbrack has never been a municipality, so that a delimitation is usually only based on the delimitation of the statistical district Sudbrack, which today roughly defines the boundaries of the informal district of Sudbrack.

Sudbrack is home to the Sudbrack cemetery, founded in 1897, on which there are still some family graves from the early days of the cemetery, as well as the park at Meierteich with the Sudbrack sports facility, the Alte Ziegelei adventure playground and the Apfelstraße youth traffic school adjoining it.

Buildings

Buildings worth seeing are u. a. the Volkshaus Sudbrack , the Sudbrack School and the Erlöserkirche .

The main building of Hof Meyer zu Sudbrack was at Apfelstrasse 77 (corner of Sudbrackstrasse) . It was originally built in 1820 on the Falkmann farm in Ehrdissen ( Schötmar parish ) and rebuilt at its current location in 1868 after the fire in the old main building, Sudbrack. It was a four-post half-timbered building with a crooked hip roof and richly carved gate post. The house was demolished in November 2012 for the benefit of a senior citizen's residential complex after all efforts to rescue it failed.
