Location of Babenhausen in Dornberg
city of Bielefeld

Babenhausen is a district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the Dornberg district . Until the incorporation of January 1, 1973 Babenhausen was a municipality in the Office Dornberg the circle Bielefeld .

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 statistical districts. The informal district of Babenhausen roughly corresponds to the statistical districts 42 Babenhausen-Ost and 43 Babenhausen .

Babenhausen borders the Bielefeld districts of Jöllenbeck and Schildesche and the districts of Großdornberg and Niederdornberg-Deppendorf from the Dornberg district. Running waters in Babenhausen are the Johannisbach and the Babenhausener Bach .

history

There are two different assumptions in history for the first mention of Babenhausen: In an exchange contract dated April 19, 974, the name Pavenhusen is mentioned for the first time . On March 26, 1252, Pavenhosen is mentioned in a feudal treaty . Since the 13th century, farms have been recorded in fiefdoms in what is now Babenhausen.

In the Middle Ages, Babenhausen was a farming community in the County of Ravensberg . Babenhausen has always belonged to the parish of Dornberg. From an administrative point of view, the farmers in the parish of Dornberg initially belonged to the Vogtei Brackwede and from around the beginning of the 18th century to the Vogtei Werther. In 1739 all Dornberg farms were given tax and house numbers that were assigned according to the size of the farms.

From 1807 Babenhausen first belonged to the canton of Werther in the Bielefeld district of the Kingdom of Westphalia , which was ruled by Jérôme , Napoleon's brother. In 1811 the administrative structure changed because the north of the Bielefeld district was reclassified from the Kingdom of Westphalia to France . Babenhausen remained in the Kingdom of Westphalia and now belonged to the canton of Schildesche.

After the Napoleonic era , Babenhausen belonged to the Bielefeld district since 1816 . As part of the introduction of the new Westphalian rural community order , the Dornberg Office was founded in 1843 and Babenhausen was one of the five municipalities of the Office in 1845.

On October 1, 1930, the northern part of the municipality of Gellershagen fell to Babenhausen, which significantly increased the area and population of the municipality. After 1945 the old house numbers were replaced by street-related numbers.

In the 1950s, a lot of new building activity began in the areas of Babenhausen bordering the city of Bielefeld. In 1961 the Babenhausen-West residential area on Dürerstrasse was reclassified from Babenhausen to the city of Bielefeld. Due to the law on the reorganization of the Bielefeld area , the community of Babenhausen was incorporated into Bielefeld on January 1, 1973 and has been part of the Dornberg district since then. Babenhausen-West also came to the Dornberg district.
