The Ummler milestone

Ummeln is a district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the Brackwede district . The district has about 7300 inhabitants. Until 1969 Ummeln was an independent municipality in the Bielefeld district .

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below its ten districts . City districts are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old municipality. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. The old municipality Ummeln is now part of the statistical district 36 Ummeln / Holtkamp .

Ummeln is located southwest of the Teutoburg Forest , halfway between the city centers of Bielefeld and Gütersloh . The Lutter and its tributaries Lichtebach , Trüggelbach , Sunderbach , Grippenbach and Tüterbach flow through the village . Ummeln is separated by Bundesstraße 61 into the districts of Ober-Ummeln in the west and Mittel-Ummeln in the east.

history

Ummeln was first mentioned in a document in 1147 and is therefore older than the city of Bielefeld. Until 1969 Ummeln was a municipality in the Office Brackwede the circle Bielefeld . Due to the law on the reorganization of the Wiedenbrück district and parts of the Bielefeld district , Ummeln was incorporated into the town of Brackwede on January 1, 1970 . Brackwede, in turn, was incorporated into Bielefeld on January 1, 1973 as part of the reorganization of the Bielefeld area .

Population development

No figures are available as of 2008, as the statistical district only contains common data on Ummeln and Holtkamp. The 2008 figures also include the Holtkamp district.

The Geetenfest takes place as part of a small fair. The Ummelner clubs and the Johanniter Jugend present themselves there, and the Johanniter also look after the festival with medical services. In the years 2004 to 2008 the festival was canceled for financial reasons. Since 2008 the Ummelner community has been celebrating Midsummer Night in the Bürgerpark with the participation of all Ummeln associations. On the same day the kids day takes place for the little fellow citizens of Ummeln. On Easter Sunday, the traditional Easter fire of the poultry association takes place on the other side of the railway. Furthermore, the "Voluntary Fire Brigade Ummeln" celebrates the "Fire Brigade Festival" every year. The poultry association has its big poultry, fruit and vegetable exhibition on the first weekend in October. In addition to the good home-baked cakes, the exhibition has had an autumn market since 2005. The annual two-day Christmas market forms the end of the year.
