St. Michael is a Roman Catholic parish church in Bielefeld - Ummeln . The church and parish belong to the parish of St. Elisabeth Bielefeld in the Bielefeld-Lippe deanery of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

After the Second World War, the Catholic population in Ummeln grew rapidly due to expellees from Silesia and East Prussia. The emerging community was allocated a piece of land to build a church. The church was consecrated on June 28, 1953. In 1963 the church was expanded.

In the 1970s the construction of a community center was planned, which was approved on January 7, 1979 by the Vicariate General of the Archdiocese. In May 1980 a church building association was founded to finance an upcoming church renovation. The organ was inaugurated on June 17, 1989. In 1996 the originally clear glass windows were replaced by stained glass windows.

Furnishing

In the octagonal apse of the church is the tabernacle made of Aachen bluestone . In the chancel in front, the altar, ambo and baptismal font are made of the same material. A sculpture of the Archangel Michael is placed in the entrance area of ​​the church . Behind the figure is the cafeteria of the old church. The organ was made by the Stockmann brothers in Werl. 1856 pipes are distributed over 28 registers , which are played by two manuals and a pedal .
