Gebrüder Stockmann is a German organ building company based in Werl .

history

The company was founded in 1889 by the brothers Bernhard Stockmann (* July 2, 1856 in one , † March 2, 1955) and Theodor Stockmann (* 1861 in one, † 1934).

Bernhard Stockmann, son of a family of teachers from the Münsterland, had learned the craft of sculpting and gained experience in southern Germany, Italy and France. In Switzerland he then learned the trade of organ building and after twelve years returned to Westphalia with the decision to open an organ building workshop with his brother Theodor Stockmann. Theodor Stockmann had learned the trade of a carpenter and was a cabinet maker. In 1889 they founded the company in Werl, which was entered in the commercial register on May 20, 1901.

The first organ was built for the parish church in Vosswinkel . Further new buildings followed in the entire diocese of Paderborn .

In 1934 the master organ builder Theodor Stockmann died. His children took over his business.

In 1955, the second unmarried founder of the company, master organ builder Bernhard Stockmann, died at the age of 98. The company was now run by the children of Theodor Stockmann, Bernhard, Heinrich and Rudolf Stockmann (* 1914, † February 16, 1990).

In the years that followed, the number of employees increased and the facility was enlarged. In the years from its foundation to 1964, the company had built 260 organs. In 1968 Bernhard Stockmann died and Heinrich Stockmann went into retirement. Organ builder Rudolf Stockmann ran the organ building workshop on his own until his death in 1990.

The family company Gebrüder Stockmann is a member of the Association of German Organ Builders .

Ruth Stockmann and Petra Stockmann-Becker are responsible for managing the company.

Works

By 1964, 260 organs had been built. This also included the largest organ in the Aachen diocese . It had 65 registers, divided into four manuals and pedal. After the renovation in 2006, the organ now has 66 registers. It is located in the St. Cornelius Church in Dülken. This organ gained national fame because important artists such as Käte van Tricht , Peter Planyavsky , Wolfgang Seifen , Kamiel D'Hooghe , Eberhard Lauer and Johannes Matthias Michel have played on it since the 1980s . Some organ concerts were broadcast by WDR . In 1988 the 512th organ left the Stockmann organ building workshop.

In 2010 and 2011 two organs were built for churches in Norway .
