St. Petrus Canisius is the Catholic church in the village of Scheller , bordering Haste , in the municipality of Hohnhorst in the district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony . It was built in 1966/67 according to plans by Johannes Reuter (Kassel).

history

The settlement of Catholic expellees and the development of new building areas in Hohnhorst and Haste led to the planning of the new church with the patronage of the Jesuit , Catholic reformer and church teacher Petrus Canisius . The foundation stone was laid on August 14, 1966 by Vicar General Adalbert Sendker , the consecration on July 8, 1967 by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . In 1977 the church received a Canisius relic from St. Michael (Friborg) from Bishop Pierre Mamie , which is exhibited in a reliquary in the Lady Chapel.

The church belonged to the pastoral care unit Lindhorst - Sachsenhagen -Hohnhorst- Bokeloh until its dissolution . Since September 2012 she has been part of the parish Maria of the Holy Rosary , Bad Nenndorf .

architecture

The church is built on a square floor plan. The ridge of the flat gable roof rises steeply from the western corner, the entrance area, to the eastern, the chancel. These two corners of the building , which is otherwise made of brick , are inward- facing concrete angles that give space to two vertical window strips in the east and the two entrance doors in the west. Further narrow ribbon windows line the roof.

Furnishing

The stained glass windows were based on designs by Franz Heilmann (Borghorst). Hubert Janning (Münster) designed the bronze Christ corpus on a cross made of bog oak based on the Bernward Cross , as well as the baptismal font and tabernacle made of bronze as well as the ambo and altar made of Michelnau basalt lava . The back wall of the altar bears a round relief with a diameter of 7 m, created by Josef Hauke (Lauenau). It shows the New Jerusalem according to the vision of the Revelation of John ( Rev 21  EU ) with Christ as the “bridegroom” and Mary (the church) as the “bride”, surrounded by angels and saints. Josef Hauke also comes Lady -Figur in the Lady Chapel.

The organ with 15 stops on two manuals and pedal was built in 1972 by the Stockmann company.
