Josef Hauke

Josef Hauke (* 1920 in Oberlindewiese , ČSR ; † 2009 in Lauenau ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Hauke ​​completed an apprenticeship as a wood carver with his father and in Brno . In 1946 he came to Lower Saxony as a displaced person and settled in Lauenau the following year, where he and his young family initially lived in great poverty. Until his death he lived and worked as a freelance artist in Lauenau. Its clients were municipalities and private individuals as well as especially Catholic parishes in the diocese of Hildesheim . His preferred materials were bog oak , polyester resin , stone, ceramic and bronze . In 1980 he was a co-founder and chairman of the Schaumburg Artists Association for several years .

After Hauke's death, the Josef Hauke ​​Foundation was founded in Lauenau to promote cultural life in the community area. Josef Hauke ​​has dedicated an exhibition room in the local business park to the Lauenau area.
