The Church of St. Brother Konrad was a Catholic church in the Hanover district of List . Most recently she belonged to the parish of the Holy Spirit , in the Hannover deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The church, named after St. Konrad von Parzham , was located at Overbeckstraße 3.

history

The church was set up in a former warehouse of the Dyes & Co. furniture factory . The St. Brother Konrad Curate was established on April 24, 1936 . On 26 May 1936 the foundation stone was laid for the conversion of the warehouse to the church, and on 22 November 1936, it was by Bishop Joseph Godehard making ordained . It was the first church in the diocese of Hildesheim to be named after Konrad von Parzham, who had only been canonized two years earlier . Her first pastor was Aloys Gödeke, previously a chaplain at St. Marien . At the time of the consecration of the church, 1,855 Catholics belonged to the curate of St. Brother Konrad . The church survived the air raids on Hanover in World War II without major damage.

After the Second World War, the number of Catholics in the catchment area of ​​the church increased due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire . From April 1, 1956, St. Brother Konrad was an independent parish, previously the catchment area of ​​the church belonged to the parish of St. Joseph . On April 1, 1961, the parish of St. Brother Konrad was elevated to a parish. In 1968 the interior was redesigned.

Due to declining financial resources, but also the decreasing number of priests and church members, all churches in the Diocese of Hildesheim were classified according to their future needs. At that time, the St. Brother Conrad Church was viewed as “not absolutely necessary for pastoral development” and was intended to be closed. Since September 1, 2010 the church has belonged to the parish of the Holy Spirit. On June 22, 2013 it was profaned by Auxiliary Bishop Heinz-Günter Bongartz . The church property was sold in the same year, the church building was demolished in 2015.

Architecture and equipment

Hanns Joachim Klug redesigned the tabernacle and altar on the occasion of the redesign of the interior in 1968 . The baptismal font and the Way of the Cross are by Josef Hauke ( Lauenau ), the windows were designed by Egbert Lammers . The organ was built in 1972 by the Paul Ott company and installed again in 2016 in the Evangelical Lutheran Martinskirche in Sievershausen . There were three bells in the tower of the church . The pews were brought to Bosnia after the profanation , the statue of the Virgin found a new place in the Holy Cross Church in Isernhagen , which was consecrated in 2017 .
