Heinz-Günter Bongartz (born March 5, 1955 in Gütersloh ) is auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Hildesheim .

Life

Heinz-Günter Bongartz grew up in Avenwedde . After secondary school and the Abitur at the Marienschule der Ursulinen in Bielefeld, he studied philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and Catholic theology at the Julius Maximilians University in Würzburg . On June 5, 1982, he received the Hildesheim Cathedral , the ordination . From 1982 to 1986 Bongartz was chaplain in the parish of St. Elisabeth in Hildesheim and Hameln , from 1986 to 1988 pastor in Hameln and Hemeringen, from 1988 to 1993 pastor of the parish St. Elisabeth in Hameln and from 1993 to 2006 pastor of the parish of St. Oliver in Laatzen . For many years he was the spokesman for the priestly council in the diocese and from 1998 headed the dean's office at Hanover-Mitte / Süd as dean . In 2006 he became head of the main department of personnel / pastoral care in the Episcopal Vicariate Hildesheim and resident cathedral capitular at Hildesheim Cathedral. Since 1993 Heinz-Günter Bongartz has taught homiletics at the seminaries in Hamburg, Osnabrück and Hildesheim .

On December 4, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Bonusta and ordered him to succeed Hans-Georg Koitz auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Hildesheim. The episcopal ordination received his Bishop Norbert Trelle on 26 February 2011 in St. Godehard in Hildesheim; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Nikolaus Schwerdtfeger and Hans-Georg Koitz.

Bongartz also holds the positions of commissioner for questions of sexual abuse of minors by clergy in the diocese of Hildesheim (from 2006) and the management of the episcopal advisory board on this topic (from 2007) as well as the commissioner for the permanent deacons of the diocese (from 2007) in the bishopric further.

Bongartz has been the dean of Hildesheim Cathedral since December 7th, 2014 . At the same time he gave up the management of the main department of personnel / pastoral care in the Episcopal General Vicariate. On June 27, 2019, he handed over the office of vicar general to Martin Wilk.

In the German Bishops' Conference he is a member of the Commission for Spiritual Professions and Church Services and the Commission for Education and School .

Motto and coat of arms

Bongartz 'episcopal motto is his prime motto Praedicamus Christum crucifixum (“We proclaim Christ as crucified” ( 1 Cor 1.23  EU )). His coat of arms shows the colors of the Diocese of Hildesheim yellow and red in vertical division. In the yellow field there is a red rooster as the old symbol of the "wake-up caller", in the red field a yellow Bernward cross .
