Nikolaus Schwerdtfeger (born October 1, 1948 in Haar , Germany ) is auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Hildesheim .

Life

Schwerdtfeger was born on October 1st, 1948 in Haar, Bavaria, but grew up in Hildesheim .

He studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Frankfurt am Main , Rome and Freiburg im Breisgau . He holds a degree in philosophy and is a doctor of theology . On June 5, 1982, he was by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen to priests ordained . From 1982 to 1984 he was chaplain in Celle , 1984 to 1990 episcopal chaplain and subsidiary to St. Martinus in Hildesheim's Himmelsthür district , from 1990 to 1991 pastor in Himmelsthür and from 1991 to 1995 pastor at St. Benno in Goslar .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on June 19, 1995 titular bishop of Fussala and auxiliary bishop in Hildesheim. On September 23, 1995 he was Bishop Josef Homeyer for consecrated bishop . Co -consecrators were Bishop Karl Lehmann of Mainz and Auxiliary Bishop Hans-Georg Koitz .

Schwerdtfeger is a member of the Diocesan Commission for the Promotion of Ecumenical Work in the Diocese of Hildesheim. In the German Bishops' Conference he is a member of the Ecumenical Commission and the Caritas Commission .

In October 2016 he took part in the historic pilgrimage of German bishops to the Holy Land .

On September 9, 2017, after accepting the resignation of Bishop Norbert Trelle as the longest- serving auxiliary bishop, he temporarily took over the management of the diocese and was diocesan administrator from September 11, 2017 to September 1, 2018 .
