Location of the community of Haar in the district of Munich | ||
Haar is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Munich , which borders Munich to the east.
geography
Neighboring communities
In the north, Haar borders on the municipality of Feldkirchen ( district of Munich ), in the east on the municipality of Vaterstetten ( district of Ebersberg ), in the south on the communities of Grasbrunn and Putzbrunn (both in the district of Munich) and in the west on the Munich district of Trudering-Riem .
Structure of the municipal area
The municipality has five officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is given in brackets ):
- Haar (suburban settlement)
- Eglfing
- Gronsdorf ( Kirchdorf )
- Ottendichl ( parish village )
- Salmdorf (Kirchdorf)
history
The name Haar comes from the word Hardt ( harde / hard ), which describes a lightly overgrown woodland. Hence the ax in the Haarer coat of arms, which reminds of the clearing of the forest.
Haar is mentioned for the first time in a document from the Rott am Inn monastery in 1073: in it, the "Gut Harde" is given as a gift to the monastery.
In the course of the reorganization of Bavaria (municipal edict 1818), the previously independent villages of Haar, Gronsdorf and Salmdorf were merged to form the new municipality of Salmdorf . Ottendichl and Eglfing were added in 1849.
The community remained quite small throughout the 19th century: the description of the municipality from 1872 counts 43 houses with 334 inhabitants. Only with the opening of the Haar train station on the Munich - Rosenheim route was the community able to grow: in 1900 there were already 61 houses with 472 residents. In the course of the construction and opening of what was then the district insane asylum , the current Isar-Amper-Klinikum München-Ost , in 1905 the community grew rapidly: In 1917, Haar had 3,666 inhabitants and in 1933 5,175. On April 29, 1924, the Salmdorf community was renamed Haar.
After the Second World War, hair grew significantly due to the construction of further settlements: in 1972 there were 13,000 inhabitants and in 1977 there were already 19,500. This time was mainly characterized by the construction of the Jagdfeld Center: This includes some high-rise buildings, shops and restaurants, an artificial lake and a park. The Ernst Mach Gymnasium in Haar was also opened.
With the closure of the nearby Munich-Riem airport in 1992, the community benefited as well as from the relatively slowed-down housing construction, which preserved an intact townscape in Haar with numerous listed buildings.
The appearance of the Jagdfeldzentrum, which was built in the 1970s, was greatly changed in 2007 with a new office tower and a new residential complex with around 80 units, called “natural hair”.
The future development of the site will also be influenced by the use of the abandoned area of the Haar II hospital section. For this listed, park-like facility with its Art Nouveau hospital buildings, there is a concept for residential and commercial use that includes redensification .
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 16,553 to 21,185 by 4,632 inhabitants or 28%.

Furthermore, companies from the pharmaceutical industry and information technology have important branches or headquarters in the community. The world's third largest pharmaceutical company, MSD , employs around 1,600 people in its German subsidiaries. The German headquarters of the French group Danone is also located in Haar.
Community Works Haar
The Gemeindewerke Haar GmbH are municipal electricity, gas and drinking water suppliers in the municipality. The company is also responsible for drainage and has set up its own antenna supply in some parts of the village. As the basic supplier, the municipal works in Haar are responsible for the operation, maintenance and expansion of the grid-bound supply network.
Water supply
The Haar municipal works were founded in 1998 to take over the water supply from the Haar municipality. So the staff was taken over by the municipal water supply and was familiar with all the work from the start. The Haarer drinking water was initially pumped into wells on the edge of the Haarer municipality. In order to secure the long-term supply of the growing place for the future, new sources were developed. Since 2011, the water has come from a support area in the Höhenkirchener Forest. Here the water is available in larger quantities and of better quality. The quality of the drinking water is checked at regular intervals by a Munich municipal utility laboratory. The current analysis results are published on the website of the Haar municipal works.
Power supply
In addition to the basic supply tariff and products tailored to private and business customers, the municipal works in Haar offer a green electricity product ( Haarer Ökostrom ). 100% of this electricity is obtained from regional hydropower.

traffic
Road traffic
The community is located directly on the A 99 and is connected via the Haar junction. The federal highway 471 crosses the municipality in a north-south direction, the federal highway 304 in an east-west direction.
railroad
The Munich – Rosenheim railway runs through the municipal area north of the main town . The railway line was opened on October 15, 1871, at the same time the Haar station went into operation. Due to its importance as a long-distance line to the south and south-east, the railway line to Rosenheim was expanded to double-track as early as 1892. The Gronsdorf stop, also located in the municipality of Haar, was opened on May 1, 1897. The route was electrified in 1927, and despite the numerous express trains on the route, the Haar station was only connected to Munich and Grafing by simple passenger trains . After the Munich S-Bahn went into operation in 1972, the Gronsdorf stop was only served by S-Bahn trains. An S-Bahn station was also set up in Haar, but the connection to the regional transport lines from Munich to Rosenheim was retained until the 1990s.
Today the S-Bahn line 6 connects Haar with Munich, Zorneding, Grafing and Ebersberg every 20 minutes. During rush hour, the S-Bahn line 4 Zorneding – Haar – Munich – Gauting – Starnberg– Tutzing supplements the 20-minute intervals between Zorneding, Haar and Munich to a 10-minute interval. Some of the trains on S-Bahn line 4 continue to Grafing Bahnhof. The S-Bahn trains stop in Gronsdorf and Haar within the municipality of Haar.
Local transport
Haar is integrated into the tariff system of the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV). All districts except Ottendichl belong to the interior of the MVV, which means that only one ticket for one zone is required for a trip into the city of Munich. The backbone of public transport in Haar is the S-Bahn line S 6 ( Tutzing - Starnberg - Pasing - Donnersbergerbrücke - Munich main station - Marienplatz - Ostbahnhof - Berg am Laim - Trudering - Gronsdorf - Haar - Vaterstetten - every 20 minutes ) Zorneding - Grafing train station - Ebersberg). During rush hour , the S-Bahn line S 4 ( Geltendorf –München – Haar – Zorneding – Grafing Bahnhof – Ebersberg) increases the frequency to a 10-minute cycle.
Furthermore, the community is well served by several MVV regional bus routes. Line 243 of DB Regio Bus Bayern GmbH (DRB) is the busiest and serves, for example, the Jagdfeld - the most densely populated residential area - and the Munich-East Clinic. Other lines establish connections to the neighboring towns. In addition, the city bus line 193 of the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) ends in Haar , which connects Haar via Waldtrudering to Munich-Trudering every 10 minutes on weekdays. Some buses on line 193 go to the high school instead of Ludwig-Moser-Straße on school days. The following bus routes operate in the municipality of Haar:
