Eggstedt is a municipality in the Dithmarschen district in Schleswig-Holstein .

The place is near the Kiel Canal and can be reached via the Schafstedt exit of the federal highway 23 .

history

Eggstedt was first mentioned in 1538 as "Eckstede". the name means place or dwelling on the corner or edge.

On December 1, 1934, the parish district of Süderhastedt was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Eggstedt.

In recent times the place has been shaped by agriculture and handicrafts. With the death of farms in agriculture, there was also a decline in craft businesses and trade. Today, most of the working population have to commute to their workplaces.
