Epenwöhrden ( Low German : Epenweuhern / Epenweuern ) is a municipality in the Dithmarschen district in Schleswig-Holstein .

The municipality of Epenwöhrden is located in the marshland between Meldorf and Heide (Holstein) on both sides of federal highway 5 , with the town center being west of the federal highway. The land registry office Meldorf has determined that Epenwöhrden (more precisely the Epenwöhrdenermoor) is the center of the Dithmarsch mainland.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are the communities of Hemmingstedt and Nordhastedt , the city of Meldorf and the community of Nordermeldorf (all in the Dithmarschen district), starting clockwise in the north .

history

On April 1, 1934, the parish of Nordermeldorf was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Epenwöhrden.

Dusenddüwelwarf

In 1500 the Dithmarsch farmers defended their freedom in the battle of Hemmingstedt against the numerically far superior troops of the Danish King Johann I and his brother Duke Friedrich I  of Holstein with the battle cry "Wahr di, Garr, de Buer de kumt" ( Pay attention , the farmer is coming). A memorial stone that was erected in Epenwöhrden on Dusenddüwelswarf for the 400th anniversary in 1900 commemorates this victory.
