history

The place is first found in 1521 as werüerorth in a document. Already on the Boeckel map from 1559, there still as Werven . It was located in the north of what was then the island of Büsum , but the entire southern part of the island has now sunk into the North Sea, the Büsum area has grown to the mainland thanks to dikes since 1585, so that Werven was on the south coast in the 18th century. After the actual Werven was lost in the Christmas flood of 1717 , the Büsum people moved the lock further north, and in 1739 the new Warwerort harbor was built here.

The small port, like the others along the coastline, was of crucial importance for the region before Dithmarschen was connected to the modern rail and road network in the late 19th century. Since the dike in the Speichererkoog , however, it has lost its access to the North Sea and thus its task.

On April 1, 1934, the parish county of Büsum was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Warwerort.
