Linden is located in the Dithmarschen district, 130 km northwest of Hamburg , 30 km from the North Sea and 8 km from the Eider .

Neighboring communities are the communities Hennstedt , Glüsing , Schalkholz , Tellingstedt (exclave Rederstall), Barkenholm , Norderheistedt and Süderheistedt (exclave Hägen ) (all in the Dithmarschen district ), starting clockwise in the north .
history
The name Linden has its origin in the word "lin". This word means deciduous tree , the word linden means settlement in the deciduous forest. The first settlement goes back to the Stone Age . Linden is first mentioned in a document in 1402.
On April 1, 1934, the parish state community Hennstedt was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Linden.

In August 2010, the Linden elementary school was closed due to falling student numbers. The kindergarten continues.
Sports
TSV Linden is the local sports club in the municipality of Linden. This popular sports-oriented club conducts the sports of judo, football, badminton, dodgeball, gymnastics, golf and the health sports groups yoga, pilates, back school / spinal gymnastics.

In the district of Pahlkrug, north of the Heide / Pahlen road, is the very well-preserved passage grave of Linden-Pahlkrug, discovered in 1879 .
