geography

location

The place is a marshland and area community and structured agriculturally. The Koog was obtained from the North Sea through dyke construction and drainage and borders directly on the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park in the west .

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are the communities Friedrichskoog , Kronprinzenkoog and Neufelderkoog (all in the Dithmarschen district), starting clockwise to the north .

politics

Community representation

Since the municipal elections in 2013, the AKWV electoral groups have six and the FWG three seats in the municipal council.

coat of arms

Blazon : “In blue, growing from the lower edge of the shield, a golden field of ears of wheat, consisting of ten unburned wheat ears next to each other, covered with eleven blue cornflower blossoms arranged in the form of the Latin letter W; above three 2: 1 set silver seagulls with golden beaks. "

The municipality has had its own coat of arms since 1899, which was changed in 1983, and since 1983 also its own flag.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog is historically predominantly agricultural, so cabbage , carrots and sugar beets are mainly grown on the marshland .

The St. Michaelisdonn – Friedrichskoog railway line has been closed and dismantled. The last train ran here in 1967.

GROWIAN with the two wind measurement masts

Due to the windy location directly on the North Sea, the largest wind turbine in the world at the time , the so-called GROWIAN with a nominal electrical output of 3  megawatts , was built in Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog on July 6, 1983 . Due to technical problems, the plant was shut down and dismantled in August 1987. On August 24, 1987, the first wind farm in the Federal Republic of Germany with 30 wind turbines at the time was opened and put into operation, the West Coast wind farm . Annual electricity production was 19 million kWh . The largest wind test field in the world is also here.

As a further source of income, some farmers use their large roof areas for photovoltaics , so that the community has one of the highest per capita feed-in quotas in Germany into the E.ON Hanse network . The community thus achieved one of the top positions in the German Solar League .
