Solar League
The Solar League is a nationwide initiative to record the performance of all solar and photovoltaic systems built in Germany . The league, which has a competition-like character, is organized by the Solarthemen editorial team in cooperation with Deutsche Umwelthilfe .
Experience shows that smaller municipalities have an advantage, which is why the competition is divided into several sub-competitions: large cities with over 100,000, medium-sized cities (20,000–99,999 inhabitants), small towns (5,000–19,999), municipalities with 1,000–4,999 and small communities with less than 999 inhabitants.
The number of participating municipalities has increased significantly since the competition began. While only 71 municipalities took part in 2001, since 2011 there have been over 2,000 municipalities in Germany that have put their solar systems into the competition.
The number of points of a participating municipality is made up of the installation performance of solar thermal systems and photovoltaic systems: Until 2012: photovoltaics: 3 watts per inhabitant equals 1 point. Solar thermal : 0.01 square meters per inhabitant also equals 1 point. The general rule since 2013: 1 watt per inhabitant equals 1 point. In the case of photovoltaics, the generator output is used (the point is that 1 square meter of solar module has an output of around 120 watts). With solar thermal energy, a thermal output of 700 watts per square meter of solar collector is assumed.
The new rating changes the weighting between the two technologies and brings an overall higher score with otherwise the same installation.
Since 2006, the participants have received bonus points for the equal expansion of solar thermal and photovoltaic systems , which in the best case scenario double the number of points achieved.
The general formula for the bonus points is as follows:
These are added to the normal points.
