Ostrohe is a municipality in the Dithmarschen district in Schleswig-Holstein .

geography

landscape

One of the defining landscape elements in Ostrohe is the degenerated fen.

Districts

The districts of Beim Steinofen, Grundhof and Kringelkrug belong to the municipality of Ostrohe.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring municipalities are the municipalities of Norderheistedt and Süderheistedt , the city of Heide and the municipality of Weddingstedt (all in the Dithmarschen district), starting clockwise in the northeast .

history

The origin of the name Ostrohe is difficult to determine. The last syllable "oh" will mean forest. It is also possible that the last part comes from the Germanic spring goddess Ostara. Ostrohe (then "Ostro") was first mentioned in a document in 1447. However, the settlement will be much older. Witnesses from the past are the mighty " Steenoben " (Hünengrab) on the way to Weddingstedt as well as finds of numerous stone axes, knives etc. on the Vossberg, which is on the old country way to Heide .

On April 1, 1934 the parish of Weddingstedt was dissolved. All of their villages, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Ostrohe.

Over time, the former farming village of Ostrohe has become a residential community.

politics

Community representation

Of the 12 seats in the municipal council, the UDO community of voters has 4 seats since the 2013 local elections, the NWB has 5 seats and the CDU has three seats.

coat of arms

Blazon : "In silver, a red rafter, to the right of a green oak leaf, to the left of a green ear, enclosing a leafy black cattail below."

Description of the coat of arms: "In silver, a leafy black bulrush enclosing red rafters , on the right by a green oak leaf, on the left by a green ear, both placed after the figure."

The red rafter dominating the coat of arms of Ostrohe represents the presence of the community. Due to its location on the outskirts of Heide, Ostrohe has become the preferred residential area for people working in the nearby district town. The Agriculture , in the past the main source of income of the inhabitants is, in contrast, receded into the background. That is why the ear of wheat, the symbol of the traditional branch of the economy, has only been given the status of a mark next to the rafter, which is similar to a house roof and therefore represents the residential function, in the coat of arms. The oak leaf represents the local recreation area "Behnkeforst". The reed plant also describes the nearby Ostroher / Süderholmer Moor.

Economy and Infrastructure

From 1905 to 1937 the place had a railway connection with the Norderdithmarschen district railway .

In the district of Kringelkrug, a new combined rescue and fire station was built in 1999 by the district of Dithmarschen in order to reduce the arrival times of the ambulance in the rural area of Norddithmarschen.
