coat of arms
Blazon : “In blue as a knee in frontal view a golden armored, bareheaded knight who cuts his red-lined golden cloak with a silver sword under the angled left arm (St. Martin). A silver jug at the top left. "
Culture and sights
In the community there is a stone church from the 12th century with a striking leaning church tower. The St. Martins Church was one of the five main churches in Dithmarschen and is the mother church of the Pahlen church. The villages belonging to the parish parish Tellingstedt were parished into the parish. The church, first mentioned in 1140, grew by an annex in 1559, the year of the last feud , received a side aisle in the south in 1726 and an ossuary in the north in 1755. It contains the oldest still playable organ in Schleswig-Holstein from 1642, built by Tobias Brunner from Lunden . The pulpit dates from 1604, the altar, which originally stood in the garrison church in Tönning , which was demolished in 1744 , was created by Theodor Allers .
The two landscape protection areas, Großes Moor and Kätner Moor, are located within the municipality . The nature reserve Dellstedter Birkwildmoor is located about six kilometers to the northeast . The traditional folk festival takes place every year in August.
The list of cultural monuments in Tellingstedt includes the cultural monuments entered in the list of monuments of Schleswig-Holstein.
Economy and Infrastructure
The traditional small-town and rural handicrafts were decisive for the economic importance of Tellingstedt, in particular the numerous potters made the place known nationwide: due to the extensive clay deposits there, up to 17 workshops were able to supply the residents with household items and work accessories far beyond Tellingstedt's needs. Until the end of the last century, however, this branch of industry had declined to such an extent that only a small amount of traditional arts and crafts remained. Today, in the center of Tellingstedt on the main street, the so-called pottery monument reminds of the 300 year old pottery tradition. This shows a man, Heinrich Reimer, who makes a traditional pottery and a boy who watches at work.
From 1905 to 1937 the place had a railway connection with the Norderdithmarschen district railway .
Until 1988, the Wandmaker supermarket chain, which is widespread in Schleswig-Holstein, had its headquarters in Tellingstedt. It was taken over by coop eG , which converted the store into a Sky store.
In addition, Tellingstedt offers two specialty shops that are also known beyond the borders of Schleswig-Holstein, the Schrum weapons shop with equipment and weapons for sports and hunting and the Laue cloakroom shop with festive clothing.
education
