Helmut Wandmaker (born November 9, 1916 in Schalkholz , † July 19, 2007 in Tellingstedt ) was a German officer during the Second World War , an entrepreneur , raw food pioneer and author .

Life

Helmut Wandmaker was born in 1916 as the son of a captain and a general merchant. After High School at Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium , he studied mechanical engineering .

From 1941 to 1945, Wandmaker was an officer on the Eastern Front and was u. a. Awarded the German Cross in Gold on June 1, 1944 , the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on April 5, 1945 and the Gold Close Combat Clasp on April 7, 1945. At the end of World War II he was major in the reserve and commander of the 76th Panzer Grenadier Regiment.

In 1946, Wandmaker married Lore Behnke, whose parents had a shop in Tellingstedt . He managed this and also took over his mother's business in Schalkholz. The marriage had three children.

The supermarket chain grew to 43 markets. In 1975, Wandmaker sold his company to what was then Hussel AG, which belonged to Coop Kiel and later ceded the stores to them. He remained managing director until 1982.

Wandmaker denied all crimes of the Wehrmacht and therefore also massively criticized the Wehrmacht exhibition . In 1999 he published an article against the Wehrmacht exhibition in the brochure “The Reemtsma Exhibition” of the State and Economic Political Society .

Motivated by his own impairments, Wandmaker began to deal with health issues after returning from captivity . He became a vegetarian in the early 1950s . He read Are Waerland's book Liberation from the cauldron of diseases and began to orientate himself to its concept of life and nutrition. He also attended the seminars organized by Waerland.

In 2000, Wandmaker founded WA Aktuell - the vegan raw food magazine . It is still published every two months - edited by Wencke Prigge. The focus is still on information on raw food nutrition as suggested by Helmut Wandmaker. In addition, people have their say who talk about their experiences, present projects that have already been implemented or are planned, and give tips for changing to what they consider to be a healthier diet and lifestyle.

Helmut Wandmaker is an honorary citizen of his place of birth Schalkholz and an "honored citizen" of Tellingstedt , where he also lived. In 2007, a "generous foundation" set up a Helmut Wandmaker endowed professorship for "the areas of hospitality management, health tourism and senior tourism" in the economics department of the West Coast University of Applied Sciences .

Nutrition

Helmut Wandmaker propagated a form of nutrition that he called "sun food". In contrast to what his supermarket chain offers, this diet is largely based on fruit and completely rejects cooked meals. “Our origins characterize us as fruit eaters,” was one of Wandmaker's credos and: “You should only eat three things: Clean air , clean water and fresh food, to which our body has been adapted for millions of years. It consists mainly of fruits and leafy vegetables. ”Wandmaker published three books on this subject. They are characterized by a style of language and argumentation that is reminiscent of the literature of religious communities. The author made a distinction between “redeemed” - those are raw foodists who strictly follow Wandmaker's direction - and “damned” - those who follow a different direction or do not eat raw food at all.
