Heinz-Werner Arens (born August 30, 1939 in Tellingstedt , Dithmarschen ; † February 2, 2011 in Rendsburg ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and from 1996 to 2005 president of the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein .

education and profession

Arens had been working as a special school teacher since 1963 and headed the special school in Heide from 1967 to 1979 .

MP

Arens was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament from 1979 to 2005 . Here he was from 1988 to 1996 Parliamentary Secretary of the SPD - Parliamentary Group . He headed the committee of inquiry into the so-called drawer affair . From April 23, 1996 to 2005 he was President of the State Parliament. In the state elections in 2005, he no longer ran for the state parliament.

Honorary positions

Arens was the state representative of the victim protection organization Weißer Ring for Schleswig-Holstein and since 2007 chairman of the Klaus Groth Society .
