history

Arkebek was first mentioned as Erkebeke in 1447. "Erke" is the Low German word for a weir or a small sluice. Accordingly, the name means something like "stream with a weir".

On April 1, 1934, the parish of Albersdorf was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and peasant communities became independent communities / rural communities, including Arkebek.

In 1939, an iron sword from the 8th century was found in a gravel pit . It probably comes from a destroyed Saxon grave. Arkebek has 30 listed hill and stone graves, all of which are located on Kreisstraße 40 (Albersdorf - Schrum) like on a string of pearls. The northernmost six hills are on the grounds of the "Riese" military training area.

politics

Since the local elections of 2008, has Wählergemeinschaft KWV all nine seats in the municipal council. In the election on May 6, 2018, the KWV won five direct mandates and another four list positions; it thus provides the entire municipal council again.

Economy and Infrastructure

Of the 25 farms that were once located in Arkebek after the Second World War, only five still exist 60 years later. This shows the change that the church has gone through. The place is developing from a farming village to a residential village for the workers and employees of the larger neighboring community of Albersdorf and the nearby Heide .

Public facilities

Arkebek was a location of the Bundeswehr , which operated a radio tower with 20 employees in a remote area of the telecommunications sector 111 of the armed forces base .

traffic

The federal highway 23 runs through the municipality, the junction Albersdorf is the closest.
