Blazon : "In gold, a curved blue tip blunted at the upper edge of the shield, in it a silver mermaid resisting, accompanied at the top right by a green windmill and at the top left by a green marching spade."
The mermaid on the coat of arms of the municipality of Westerdeichstrich is a symbol of the tourism that began in the 1960s. The spade indicates the construction of the dike and the cultivation of the newly reclaimed land. The "Margaretha" windmill from 1845, which is still present in Westerdeichstrich, is the actual landmark. At the same time, it symbolically represents the development of agriculture and trade. The colors gold (yellow) and green stand for agriculture ( grain cultivation and pasture land ). The color blue reflects the geographical location of the municipality of Westerdeichstrich on the North Sea coast and the connection between the inhabitants and the element of water.
