map

Welmbüttel is a municipality in the Dithmarschen district in Schleswig-Holstein . There is the center of the so-called Dithmarscher Switzerland .

history

The beginnings of a village can only be determined using archaeological means today. Nevertheless, the first written mentions are of particular importance. The church in Tellingstedt can be seen as a lower church of the Meldorfer church . Welmbüttel is not mentioned in the texts of the founding time of this church.

Like many other communities in Dithmarschen, Welmbüttel is also mentioned in the complaints from 1447 (Michelsen document book p. 45/46). The year 1402 can be named here from the list of the text. It reads there, "... when one wrote fourteen hundred in the other year, the Wednesday next before the honorable feast, it was called the feast of Christ's corpse ...", from which the 24th May 1402 results.

On April 1, 1934, the parish Tellingstedt was dissolved. All of their villages, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Welmbüttel.

politics

Since the municipal elections in 2013, the WGW electoral community has all nine seats in the municipal council.

landscape

The wooded Geest area ( Dithmarscher Switzerland ) is 72  m above sea level at Rugebarg NN the highest point in the municipality. The famous "Heidberg" is 46  m above sea level. NN significantly lower, but viewed as a popular destination in the district forest among hikers. The Geest around Welmbüttel is a watershed. The Tielenau rises in the south-western part of the district forest and flows into the Eider via Tellingstedt . The surface water on the western side of the Geest gathers in small streams until it flows into the Miele . The Broklandsau in the north has several springs in the village. The Osterau rises in the district forest near the old ponds, which have now fallen dry , the Wierbek has several sources, one rises on the Bahnhofsberg and feeds several ponds on the B 203 before it unites further source streams in the Norderwohld. The stream running on the border to the municipality of Schrum was named Kellihorn-Scheide-Beek in Neocorus as early as 1600 and at the same time represented the border of the two Dithmarschen between Welmbüttel and Schrum (Neocorus vol. II page 267). This brook is later called Schrum-Brooks-Beke and further south becomes Westerau and finally Gieselau , which flowed into the Eider before the Kiel Canal was built. Today it drains via the Gieselau Canal into the Kiel Canal .

At the source of the Tielenau there is, among other things, an approximately 8,000-year-old proven site of Stone Age inhabitants in the area. More about this can be found in the Stone Age Park and Stone Age Village in the Archaeological-Ecological Center Albersdorf AÖZA.

The two large forest areas Norderwohld and Kreisforst are today a magnet for hikers and those looking for relaxation. By human intervention, a large heathland was created in the district forest area up to the 19th century , which could only be closed again later (around 1905) by foresting, mainly with pine trees. The Norderwohld has remained almost unchanged since its first known record (1725), it is a typical peasant forest.

Economy and Infrastructure

From 1905 to 1937 the place had a railway connection with the Norderdithmarschen district railway .
