The Fontanka ( Russian Фонтанка ) is a river in Russia and the left arm of the Neva in Saint Petersburg . There are many properties of the former Russian nobility along its shoreline. The river is crossed by several interesting bridges.

The Fontanka is one of 93 rivers and canals in Saint Petersburg and was once called the “Nameless River” ( Безымянный ерик ). In Russian, ерик (jerik) is an outdated term for certain rivers or connecting rivers.

The newer name of the river is derived from the fact that the water for the fountains in the gardens of the aristocratic mansions on the river was taken from it.
