history

The school was founded in 1972 as the "Staatliches Gymnasium Haar". The founding director was Rudolf Spagl. In the same year, the first Abitur exams were held. In 1996, bilingual subject teaching was introduced. English, French and Spanish as well as Latin are offered as foreign languages. The coeducational high school has a linguistic and a scientific-technological branch . The headmistress is Gabriele Langner.

Since 1986 there has been a student exchange between Ernst-Mach-Gymnasium and various schools in Bellingham , Washington State, USA. This runs within the framework of the GAPP program (German American Partnership Program) of the educational exchange service and is also financially supported by it. Until 2000 there was only a partnership with Sehome High School in Bellingham. In the 2000/2001 exchange round, Bellingham High School was added. Since the 2012/13 exchange round, only Bellingham High School has been a partner school.

The school has been part of the Blooming Landscape Network since 2010 . In 2010, for the third year in a row, the grammar school was named “ Environmental School in Europe / International Agenda 21 School”.

In 2013, the “Environmental School” project team received the German Climate Prize 2013 from the Allianz Umweltstiftung for its climate protection activities . The students of the project team therefore received an invitation from Federal President Joachim Gauck to Berlin.
