Heinz Helle (born October 15, 1978 in Munich ) is a German writer .

Life

Helle studied philosophy in Munich and New York . From 2009 to 2012 he studied at the Swiss Literature Institute in Biel . He worked as a copywriter for various advertising agencies. In 2013 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize at the invitation of Daniela Strigl and received the Ernst Willner Prize with fourth place . His debut novel The Soothing Sound of Exploding Kerosene was received positively by the critics. His second novel Actually we should dance was on the longlist of the German Book Prize 2015. His books have been translated into English, Russian, Turkish and Chinese. In 2016 he did his doctorate at the University of Philosophy in Munich with a thesis on consciousness.

Helle is married to the Swiss writer Julia Weber and lives with her and their child in Zurich .
