Christopher Schmidt

Christopher Schmidt (born October 5, 1964 in Hilden ; † March 1, 2017 in Munich ) was a German journalist and theater and literary critic . Most recently he was responsible for the literature section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung , for whose features he has been writing since 2001.

Life

Schmidt grew up in Düsseldorf as the son of a set designer and a costume designer . He studied at the University and in Berlin German and philosophy . He then worked as a freelance journalist and wrote reviews for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Die Zeit and the Berliner Zeitung . In 2001 he became editor of the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. There he initially wrote theater reviews, later he became the newspaper's head of literature.

Schmidt was a lecturer at the journalism school in Munich and a member of various award juries in the state capital of Munich. In 2015 he was a member of the jury for the selection of the German Book Prize . From 2008 to 2010 Christopher Schmidt was a juror at the Theatertreffen of the Berliner Festspiele. Since 2008 he has been a member of the jury for the Jürgen Bansemer & Ute Nyssen Dramatist Prize, which is awarded annually.

Schmidt was married for a second time and had two children from his first marriage. He lived with his wife in the Munich district of Alt bogenhausen .
