Christopher "Chris" Schmidt (born March 1, 1976 in Beaverlodge , Alberta ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with the Schwenninger Wild Wings from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga .
Career
Chris Schmidt began his career in 1992 in the Canadian Junior League WHL , where he spent four seasons with the Seattle Thunderbirds before signing his first professional contract in 1996 and 18 games in the East Coast Hockey League for the Mississippi Sea Wolves and 37 games in the IHL graduated for the Phoenix Roadrunners . The player , who was then still used as a center forward , spent the following years mostly in the American Hockey League , where he went on the ice for the Fredericton Canadiens , the Springfield Falcons , the Lowell Lock Monsters and the Manchester Monarchs . In the 1999/2000 season, Schmidt was also active for Team Canada . The NHL rights to him had already secured the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 in the fifth round in 111th position, so that he completed a total of ten missions in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season .
In 2005 , Schmidt moved from North America to Germany to the DEG Metro Stars from the German Ice Hockey League , but he left it the following year to join the league competitor ERC Ingolstadt . There the Canadian was mostly used as a defender and in the 2006/07 play-offs became the team's best-scoring player with one goal and five assists in six games. He then switched to the Iserlohn Roosters . Since the defender with German ancestors has had German citizenship since 2007, he was nominated for the first time for the German national team after good performance in the 2007/08 season , with which he took part in the 2008 Ice Hockey World Cup in Canada . After the 2008/09 season , Schmidt left the Roosters because he had signed a contract with Adler Mannheim .
For the 2010/11 season he signed a contract with the Kassel Huskies . After the team was denied the license for the DEL and the club was then dissolved, Schmidt left the Huskies and was subsequently unemployed. In November of the same year he received a contract until the end of the season with the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg . On May 31, 2011 he will move from the German runner-up in Wolfsburg to Schwenningen.
Achievements and Awards
