The Fredericton Canadiens were a Canadian ice hockey team based in Fredericton , New Brunswick , that played in the American Hockey League from 1990 to 1999 . The franchise at that time was the Montréal Canadiens farm team from the NHL , whose logo they also used. The Fredericton Canadiens played their home games at the Aitken Center .

history

In 1990 the Canadiens de Sherbrooke , the previous AHL farm team of the Montréal Canadiens, relocated from Sherbrooke , Québec to Fredericton to play under the new name. In 1995 the team was in the final of the Calder Cup , the championship of the AHL, for the first and last time . The final lost the team with 0-4, a so-called sweep , against the Albany River Rats . In 1999 the Canadiens moved to Québec , where they played as Québec Citadelles in the AHL until 2002 and then moved to Hamilton , Ontario . Today the team plays under the name Hamilton Bulldogs and is still the farm team of the Montréal Canadiens.
