The Belleville Senators are a Canadian ice hockey franchise from Belleville in the province of Ontario that has played in the American Hockey League (AHL) since the 2017/18 season . It acts as the farm team of the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League and plays its home games at the CAA Arena .

history

In July 2016, it was announced that the Ottawa Senators were planning to move their farm team to Belleville, closer to Ottawa. Her previous farm team, the Binghamton Senators , were based in Broome County , New York State , but had three years of their lease contract to fulfill at their home ground, so an equivalent replacement was necessary if the team were relocated. In September 2016, Eugene Melnyk , owner of the Ottawa Senators, confirmed that he had bought the Binghamton Senators franchise and that the team was moving to Belleville as Belleville Senators. In the city, the Belleville Bulls had previously been active in the Ontario Hockey League for over 30 years , whose Yardmen Arena (since 2018 CAA Arena ) is now also used by the Senators as their home ground. The gap in Binghamton was finally closed by the Albany Devils , who henceforth take part in the AHL game operations as Binghamton Devils .

The team's first head coach was Kurt Kleinendorst , who had been in charge of the franchise since summer 2016.
