The Washington Lions were an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Washington, DC

history

The Washington Lions were founded in 1941 as a franchise of the American Hockey League . After two seasons in which they were third in the East Division and in the 1941/42 season in their only playoff participation at all with 0-2 victories to the Cleveland Barons in the first round, the team paused due to the second World War . From 1944 to 1947, the team played in the Eastern Hockey League , before they resumed playing in the American Hockey League for the 1947/48 season , where they initially scored 40 points and then in the 1948/49 season with 26 points each division Last were. The Washington Lions then withdrew from the AHL and played again in the Eastern Hockey League from 1951 to 1957. The franchise was then sold and replaced by the Washington Presidents .
