The Tucson Roadrunners are an American ice hockey franchise from Tucson , Arizona . The team has played in the American Hockey League (AHL) since the 2016/17 season and acts as the farm team for the Arizona Coyotes from the National Hockey League . The franchise was founded in 1994 under the name Springfield Falcons .
history
In April 2016, the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League announced that they had had successful talks with the Springfield Falcons to purchase the franchise . This was accompanied by the relocation to Tucson . The team had been based in Springfield since 1994 .
In June 2016, "Roadrunners" was chosen as the nickname for the new team, based on various franchises with the name Phoenix Roadrunners between 1967 and 2009.
