Herbert Grobe

Herbert Grobe (born April 25, 1909 in Limbach / Sa .; † August 15, 1931 there ) was a German SA and SS member who died after armed clashes with political opponents as a result of pistol shots. He was venerated as the martyrdom of the movement during National Socialism .

Life

Herbert Grobe attended elementary school in Limbach from 1915, then the secondary school in Chemnitz and then the upper secondary school in Altenburg . Then he completed a three-year commercial training in his uncle's textile factory in Oberfrohna. After a stay in the USA, Herbert Grobe became a commercial clerk in his father's company.

In 1929 he joined the NSDAP and SA and was active as a political recruiter for his party. In 1931 he moved to the SS in the district town of Chemnitz. At that time there were armed clashes with political opponents, including on August 14, 1931 in Limbach after the end of an emotionally charged city council meeting. In the course of these events, he and SS member Walter Müller were seriously hit by pistol shots on their way home. During the night Herbert Grobe, who was brought to the city hospital, succumbed to his serious injuries.

The police investigation was based on two perpetrators. One suspect was arrested but released for lack of evidence. A second wave of arrests occurred in March 1933 after the National Socialist seizure of power , during which the perpetrators' confessions were extorted.

Honors

During the time of National Socialism, Herbert Grobe was erected in the center of Limbach on the place of the national elevation in front of the city church, a monumental memorial with a statement by Adolf Hitler about Herbert Grobe on the front .

On June 26, 1937, a wooden memorial plaque for the ten teachers and students who died in the First World War was unveiled in the Limbach district on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the school there. Part of this memorial for favor was also a banner in memory of Herbert Grobe.

Furthermore, in Limbach / Sa. the Hohensteiner Strasse, in which Herbert Grobe's parents' house was located, named after him.

The memorial and plaque were removed shortly after the end of World War II in 1945 and Herbert-Grobe-Strasse was renamed Hohensteiner Strasse again.
