The Syracuse Firebirds were an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Syracuse , New York .

history

The Philadelphia Firebirds were relocated to Syracuse , New York , in 1979 , where they played under the name Syracuse Firebirds in the American Hockey League in the 1979/80 season before the franchise was dissolved after the season. In their only season in the AHL, the Syracuse Firebirds reached the playoffs as third in the South Division with 69 points after the regular season, in which they were defeated by the Hershey Bears with a sweep in the best-of-seven series.
